In the last few decades, India has seen a remarkable rise in environmental challenges not only in the urban areas but also in the rural areas. It may be related to air pollution, water scarcity, waste management, biodiversity loss, landslides, conservation of natural resources, and many more. The environmental science study being interdisciplinary, the department would focus on studies of local and national issues for benefitting nature and society. .
